Why the United Church of Christ
Welcome to St. John United Church of Christ in Beecher, IL.  This is a friendly, growing community of faithful followers of Jesus Christ.  We worship in a historic church built in 1864.

We value our historic roots, but are looking forward to future ways to be a witness to Jesus Christ in our community and beyond.

The United Church of Christ embraces a theological heritage that affirms the Bible as the authoritative witness to the Word of God, the creeds of the historical ecumenical councils, and the confessions of the Reformation.  The UCC has roots in the "covenantal" tradition - meaning there is no centralized authority or hierarchy that can impose any doctrine or form of worship on its members.  Christ alone is the Head of the church.  We seek a balance between freedom of conscience and accountability to the apostolic faith.  The UCC therefore receives the historic creeds and confessions of our ancestors as testimonies, but not tests of faith.

This is a worshipping community that encourages personal faith growth, individual discernment and community fellowship.  We look forward to welcoming you when you visit us.
